Day 6

Day 6. It was my first full day in Cartagena, and I planned to have loads of fun. I first had a quick breakfast at the hotel which was good, then went out to find a tour guide. I decided to get a tour guide for Cartagena because there are a lot of things to see. I found a man named Carlos for a decent price and we set of on foot to see some of the things the city had to offer. We first went back to the Main Street, and he explained what all the buildings were. I asked him if i could go into a souvenir shop that looked good and he said sure. He showed my all the stuff that he thought was a good buy, but i decided not to buy anything this time. After that he showed my the beach, which reminded me so much of Miami. I decided that tomorrow I will go to the Beach in the morning. We then went to the ruins of the old Cartagena fort, and had a lot of fun there. I have always loved looking at old forts and seeing why they were put there. This one was at the port so enemy ships could not get in. After that it was time to go back to the hotel. I paid Carlos and said thank you so much. I ate dinner at The hotel which i think i forgot to mention was right on the beach, while watching the sun sink beneath the waves. After that I went to sleep to get ready to have another great day in Cartagena.

Day 3

I woke up to another beautiful day in Bogota, Colombia. I ate a breakfast at Mcdonalds but they had some cultural meals like Arroz con Pollo. I decided to try that and for Mcdonalds it was actually pretty good. After i ate breakfast I decided to go to the park. At the park there was a man selling dried corn to feed to the pidgeons in the square. It was only ten cents for a big pack of the corn so I decided to try it out. I put some of the corn in my hand and right away dozens of them flew into my nd gobbled the corn up. I spent awhile here before I finally ran out of corn. I kept walking around the square until i saw a man painting peoples faces for a job. I thought it would be fun to have one to hang in my room so I sat down and waited my turn. When he was finished, I was very pleased with the results so I asked him to put it in a tube for me. I took it home to the hotel and packed it safely in my bag before I went back out to find a place for lunch. I couldn't find any restaurants that were to my liking, so i just bought a double cheeseburger from Mcy Dee's. I walked around the poorer side of Bogota, but it was a little scary so i turned back. I also went to the hospital that I decided to give money to and got a tour. Many people didn't even have beds or help so I knew I had made the right choice. I gave the head of hospital my donation and he was estatic. He thought that i was the nicest person in the world and he wanted to take me out for dinner. I said no politely and was a little embarresed. I then ate dinner at the hotel which was superb before sitting down to read a book. After i finished i went to sleep at about ten thirty.

Day 14

I woke up early because my flight was at 9:50 am and i wanted to get a great breakfast before i left. I checked out from the hotel after packing my bags. I got out of the hotel at 6:30 and drove towards the airport slowly because i was looking for a colombian diner. I found one and it was called Dennys. I had a delicious breakfast of bacon, eggs, pancakes, sausage and coffee. I got to the Bogota airport at 8 o' clock and checked in at their desk. I went through security which was not bad at all and sat down to wait for the plane. I met this man who finally was able to go to America to see his son. I talked with him for awhile before he was pulled away because he had drugs on him...I guess he will not be able to see his son for awhile longer. I finally boarded the plane after finishing Harry Potter 7 which was great, and I sat down in my seat in row 17. The flight was about 2 hours and I got to watch the movie Don Quihote. I also listened to music on my ipod. "Crank that Jumprope" was listened to 23 times on that flight. I got into Miami international airport at about 1 o' clock and picked up my bags at the carosel. I took a taxi to my house. It feels good to be home.

I woke up early and check out of the hotel. I had a quick breakfast of a bean and egg burrito and was off in my car to the 400 mile drive to Cartagena. It was long and slow but the scenery was amazing. I went from mountains to valleys to forests and finally to the seaside city of Cartagena. I took a stop for gas about a third of the way there. I kept driving an bought some sugar cane from a man on the side of the road. It was delicious. I finally pulled in at about three o' clock. I checked into the new, beautiful hotel which was right on the water. When all my baggage was in my room I decided to take a look around. I decided to go to the “Main Street” and grab an early dinner at El Balcon de la Soledad. It was fabulous and I think I might even stop there again. I went back to the Hotel to sleep.

Medellin, Colombia

Day 9

I decided to take Spanish school in Medellin. I spent 4 hours in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. t first the lady taught us about verbs and stuff. I was pretty bored untill we started doing fun stuff like games and things. I learned a lot that day, probably more than I have ever learned before. I ate at a café near the school at noon which had a dilicious seafood soup that was gigantic. I also had a large smoothie and platanos. It was only seven dollars for th bill and it even came with a free vanilla ice cream. I gave them a 2 dollar tip and went back to the school for 2 hours where we learned about adjectives. On the way back to the hotel I stopped at a souvenir shop on the streets of Medellin. I found an awesome shirt that said “I VISITED COLUMBIA…….AND CAME BACK ALIVE.I finally got back to the hotel and had a dinner of veal and platanos. I fell asleep at 9:30.

Day 5

I Wake up to an early breakfast after driving to Cartagena and leave early to watch the sunrise on the beach. It is only a short 5 minute walk from the hotel to the most popular spot on the beach. The sunrise was amazing and I hung around the beach until lunch time, swimming and having fun. I walked back to the hotel for a bite to eat in their restaurant. I had fresh guava juice and a steak sandwich absolutely delicious. I then spent the afternoon at El Museo de Oro y Arqueloguía y Palacio de la Inquisicíon. The gold museum was amazing. It had more gold than I had ever seen in my entire life. I could sell that gold for like a billion dollars. After that I ate dinner at a local join and had a beer with these drunk guys who were watching the Falcons vs. Colts game on ESPN. They loved Michael Vick and kept saying things about dogs in Spanish. I took a cab home because I was totally crunked but it turned out that the cab was a kidnapper so I just jumped out because he did not lock the doors. I walked back to my hotel and fell asleep after being lead to my room by the hotel manager.

Day 2

I woke up late and ate a continental breakfast. (Toast with jam and juice). I checked out of the hotel and drove my car to La Plaza de Bolivar. It was busy with locals and tourists and a great way to learn about the city. It had everything from restaurants to local markets. I spent an hour in a cafe owned by a local named Juan Sanchez and he explained to me that walking through bogota back to the hotel would teach me about the city. I took his advice and after buying a double expresso I took off back to the hotel after parking my car in a secured overnight car garage. I saw everything from the buisness district to the suburbs, from rich to poor, parks and museums. Bogota is a very diverse city and I am greatful to Juan for telling me the best way to look at this great city. When I got back to the hotel, I eat a great dinner of steak, rice, and beans and then went to sleep.

I call my friend Chris to make sure he is driving me to the airport but he says he can not. I pack until noon while listening to Johnny Cash. I then checked my flight on my computer and it says it is on time. I called the taxi service and ate ramen noodles until the taxi gets to my house. I get to the Miami airport I check my baggage and go through security without getting delayed for once.. I get on the plane just in time and set off for Bogota. The flight was fine except for this obnoxious lady who was sitting 2 rows in front of me. I got in to the airport at 8:10 P.M. I went to the car rental and got my car which I drive to the hotel. I check in there and everyone seems nice. The room is small but cozy. I fell alseep at about 10:30.
